Was Kanye just busted for stealing music software off The Pirate Bay?
Kanye West probably isn’t happy about all the people who have been pirating his new album. However, that hasn’t stopped the mercurial rapper and producer from using the Pirate Bay to possibly steal someone else’s software. Per Ars Technica, Kanye West tweeted out a screenshot from his laptop on Wednesday that showed a tab open for the Pirate Bay as well as other tabs open for MacKeeper and Media Downloader.
In other words, it sounds like Kanye busted himself with his own hand in the cookie jar.

Ars notes that “if you look closely at Kanye’s browser tabs… you can see that… he was researching — and possibly attempting to download — some advanced wavetable synthesiser software called Serum.” Serum sells for $190, so it’s not surprising that it would be a target for software pirates. Then again, most software pirates aren’t as rich or famous as Kanye West, even if he does claim to be $53 million in debt.
Serum is made and sold by a company called Xfer Records and its cofounder quickly got wind that Kanye was possibly pirating his software. He was, needless to say, not amused and called out Kanye in an expletive-laden tirade on Twitter.
Amusingly, a Pirate Bay staff member tells Torrent Freak that the notorious piracy website is happy to have Kanye as one of its regular guests and also suggests that “if he runs into difficulty he should try the forum for technical help and support.”
