Apple to launch new broken iPhone upgrade program
According to a report by Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac, Apple is preparing to launch a new iPhone trade-in program that will allow customers to turn in their iPhones with damaged screens, cameras, or buttons.
The current Apple iPhone recycling program allows the customer to trade-in their current mint condition iPhone and put the credit towards the purchase of a new iPhone. The caveat is that the iPhone must not have a cracked screen, broken cameras or buttons. However, Apple is looking to change that.
Starting sometime this week, Apple will take in old iPhone 5/5s or iPhone 6/6 Plus that may have previously been damaged. Apple believes that this will encourage customers to lean towards the purchase of a new iPhone versus a standard iPhone repair.
Gurman says the current trade-in value for the iPhones are as follows: $50 for a 5s, $200 for a 6, and $250 for a 6 Plus.
As a side note, Apple will also be launching an official screen protector installation program and will be rolling out to all Apple Stores in the coming weeks. The report says the program has begun in select retail stores today.
